Case Study: Rehabilitation

Body

Nancy Tantalo receives physical therapy in the HydroWorx 2000 therapy pool at the Pieters Family Life Center, where she is making progress toward being able to leave her wheelchair and walk on her own again.

After surgery on her legs, Nancy required braces that made walking painful and difficult, so the opportunity for her to walk in the pool, which features a variable-speed treadmill floor, has been incredibly beneficial.  “Heritage and this pool are the miracle we’ve been hoping for,” said Auggie Tantalo, Nancy’s father.  “We haven’t given up hope that she will one day walk on her own again.”

According to Nancy’s physical therapist, “We are using aquatic therapy to help Nancy’s legs get stronger and increase the distance she can walk without pain when she’s not in the water.”  Each week, the therapist works with Nancy on stretching and range-of-motion exercises and the underwater cameras allow her to clearly see how Nancy is doing.
