The Pieters Family Life Center offers a variety of programs and resources for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. A listing of classes is published quarterly. Examples of long-standing programs include:
Super Saturdays
Super Saturday programming is designed to promote physical activity and encourage socialization for children who have developmental disabilities and their siblings. The fitness sessions range from baseball and soccer clinics to a class tailored to the younger set called “Little Movers.” Music therapy – in a group setting – is also offered on Saturdays to help with socialization, attention to task and self esteem. Families have the opportunity to participate in drum circles, songwriting and other activities.
Teen A.T.T.I.T.U.D.E.
Teen A.T.T.I.T.U.D.E. pairs teenage girls with and without developmental disabilities and encourages them to form friendships and tackle projects together. The program helps participants build social networks, learn from one another and share and express ideas. Its name stands for: awareness, teamwork, trusting, independence and together understanding differences for empowerment.
