International Ministries

In 2001 Heritage Christian Services, Hope Haven International and Bethel Ministries International partnered to provide a Camp Retreat experience for people with disabilities in Guatemala. This Camp allows people who live in very isolated conditions, struggling with poverty and the challenges of living with a disability in a majority world country, the opportunity to make friends, see healthcare professionals, receive a new or repaired wheelchair and hear the good news that God loves them.

Ministry has flourished over the years and we have added a second opportunity to serve in Guatemala: The House that Heritage Built outreach trips. By partnering with Bethel Ministries, in one week we build 2 simple homes, fit 50 plus people to wheelchairs, make home visits with friendship, food, medicine and school supplies, and visit an orphanage for children with disabilities. We also host a party for the teacher and students at an after school tutoring program to reinforce our friendship with many families in the community and to reinforce the value of education.

Our international work includes an on-going collection of wheelchairs and other mobility devices for our partners. The wheelchairs are refurbished and given to people all over the world who otherwise would not have the gift of mobility to pursue family and community inclusion, education, employment and improved health outcomes. It costs $150 from the time we receive a wheelchair until it reaches its new home. Wheelchair sponsors are needed!

Donate
Items that are helpful include:
       • Wheelchairs to be refurbished and distributed free to those in need. Please consider hosting a wheelchair drive!

       • Host a donation drive of needed items: student backpacks, school shoes, muck boots for children and adults, undergarments, or cloth diapers and diaper pins.

       • Medical supplies such as ace bandages, band-aids, triple antibiotic ointment, vitamins and prenatal vitamins.

       • Black school shoes so that students can attend school. Most students must wear black tie shoes in order to attend public school in Guatemala.

       • School supplies and back packs for the students at the rural community school where we throw the appreciation party.
